The Night of Crimson Sand is the name given to the massacre of all adult, full-blooded Mondisi Elves by the Effranian Emperor Ahmad I “The Bloody” of the Bakrad Dynasty in year 377 of the Third Terrice. The massacre stemmed from an attempted war of independence, waged by The Mondisi Emirate (known as the province of Mondisia under the Effranian Empire). To ensure none would question his authority again, the young emperor put all of the rebellious lords to the sword, leaving only the half-elves that would be elevated to provincial rulers, eventually becoming Emirs and nobility.
As a result of The Night of Crimson Sand, there are no known living Mondisi Elves, only a few half-elf lineages like the Ibn-Kaid dynasty of The Mondisi Emirate.
